On Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. is the local school vote on the town wide School District budget. Your vote is up to you, but I implore you to use the right given to you years ago from our fore father’s to GO VOTE. It is not that hard and does not take that much energy to show up at Webster Schroeder High School and pull a level for a “Yes” or ‘No” on the budget for the 2013 through 2014 school year.
You can also pull a lever for three out of five School Board members running for office this year. These fine men and women want the chance to guide the budget in the coming years and again it does not hurt much too just pull three out of five levers to decide that for the coming years.
We have over 20,000 eligible voters in the Town of Webster and it just really disturbs me that Wednesday morning I will find out that maybe only 4,000 of 20,000 will have taken the time to vote on such an important issue. Isn’t this one of the reasons we all send our kids to school, to teach them about history and the reason why we all have these rights living in America today? One only has to look overseas today to see what the alternatives can be. So as parents and grandparents shouldn’t we all get out there and vote?
In the upcoming Town election in November, over 10,000 residents will be voting for the position I hold that only controls 12% of your total tax bill. However, when you have the chance to vote on a budget that is 63% of your total tax bill and for people who control that 63% of the budget, hardly anyone shows up to vote. Please tell me how we explain this to our children the next day in history class? Do we tell our children that it does not matter about voting or that we ALL where to busy that day? So please take the time and VOTE!
On Saturday, May 18th the Free Masons will host their Second Annual Widows Sons Fundraiser “All about the Children” at the Webster Fireman’s Field from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. They will have many vendors, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and many door prizes. If you get the chance stop by and support this great cause.
The opening day of Webster’s Joe Obbie Farmers’ Market will be Saturday, June 8, 2013! The market will be celebrating 30 years in Webster and the second season located at the Webster Towne Center Plaza. Opening ceremonies will be on the 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the gazebo in the plaza. The market will run on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and beginning on Wednesday, June 12th, the market will also be open on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
