Independence Day

Posted on June 24, 2011 at 11:11 AM by PattiAnn Schultz

Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July

About 235 years ago the Declaration of Independence was signed and later presented to King George of England by colonists living in what today is known as the United States of America.

July 4th is one of our country’s most revered holidays because not only did it signal our independence from Great Britain, but it started the United States on its long journey from being just a British colony to a country where millions of immigrants left their homeland seeking freedom and a better life for themselves and their families.

We who live in the United States are indeed fortunate. Unlike many other countries where people who desire freedom are either incarcerated or worse, Americans have always had the right to speak freely and not fear retribution from our government.

As you celebrate the 4th of July holiday please remember that it is illegal for individuals without licenses and proper training to discharge fireworks. This law was designed to protect people from injury. If you want to see fireworks there are plenty of localities that have their own 4th of July celebrations.

In celebration of the July 4th holiday, the Webster Town Hall will be closed on Friday, July 1st and Monday, July 4th. We will reopen for business on Tuesday, July 5th.

On behalf of all the employees at the Town of Webster, I wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July!

As always, if you should have any questions about Webster town government, please contact my office during regular business hours at (585) 872-7068, or email me anytime at
