For the last two months the Town Board has been working with the town’s Department Heads in crafting a 2017 Budget that will meet the needs and services of our residents.
Under the New York State’s imposed 2% Tax Cap which is not 2% (it is 0.68 %) for the Town of Webster this year, we are allowed to increase the budget by $270,000 to stay under the Tax Cap. This is not a lot of money in a $21 million budget especially when health care costs are still skyrocketing out of sight and threaten to be more than the $270,000 allotted.
The Town Board is still working and talking to our Department Heads in an on-going effort to not break the Tax Cap. We are still debating costs and needs in all areas of the budget.
The Supervisor’s Budget will be filed with the Town Clerk at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 23rd. The complete Town of Webster 2017 Budget, line by line with comparisons from to 2016 to 2017, will be in the Webster Herald that will be delivered to each home on October 13th. You will also be able to pick up a copy at the Town Hall or the Webster Public Library after October 17th.
The Public Hearing for the 2017 Budget will be held on Thursday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Webster Town Hall. During the public hearing residents will then have the opportunity to ask questions and give comments on the budget. The final adoption of the Town of Webster 2017 Budget is scheduled for Thursday, November 3, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Webster Town Hall. The legal date for the final budget to be approved is December 20, 2017.
