Peddler’s Permits in the Town of Webster

Posted on January 3, 2017 at 11:36 AM by PattiAnn Schultz

As some residents might have seen in the newspaper, on December 26th there were two men that were arrested in Webster because they failed to have a peddler’s permit as they went door to door for solicitation.

In the Town of Webster all peddlers must obtain a peddler’s permit from the Town Clerks Office. The application fee is $100.00 for each company, $75.00 for each person for a three month period, and $30.00 for each additional month per person. There is also a waiting period after applying for a permit while a police background check is completed on the applicant.

Peddlers are asked to display the permit on their person in a visible manner when going door to door. If a peddler is found to be soliciting without a permit, a report should be made to the police by calling 9-1-1. We encourage you to call if you have any questions about the peddler coming to your door.

Exemptions to the above include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church groups, or political groups who do not need to have a permit.  However, we strongly suggest that parents accompany their Boy Scout and Girl Scout when going door to door.

For more information on peddler permits please call the Town Hall at 872-1000 and request assistance from the Town Clerk’s Office.

Beginning in 2017 the Town Clerk’s Office will be listing active peddler permits with expiration dates on the Town of Webster web site. That site is As of today there are no active peddler permits on file at the Town Clerk’s Office and no door to door solicitation should be happening in Webster right now legally.

As always, if you have any questions about your town government, please feel free to contact me during regular business hours at (585) 872-7068; or email me anytime at
