At the Town Board meeting on Thursday night the Town Board authorized the Supervisor to sign a contract with Lakeside Alpha, Inc. to sell the Ridgecrest building for $375,000.00. Discussions regarding this sale have been ongoing for about four months with many visitations by the people from Lakeside Learning Center. From my understanding, Lakeside will convert Ridgecrest into a church and school on the current site.
As I have stated before the water park, skate park, ball diamond and box lacrosse are not part of the sale and will remain for Webster residents and kids to enjoy in the future. We will maintain a parking lot at Ridgecrest for town residents to use while enjoying these activities and the park in the future.
You may recall that the Town Board ordered the closing of Ridgecrest in February of 2009 when the boiler failed again. The Board felt that to continue to throw taxpayer money at a building that was not meeting our needs any longer was not the right thing to do. The Board also took into account the need for asbestos clean up and major renovations to the heating and curtain wall system just did not make sense. We also did not have air-conditioning in Ridgecrest and with the summer we have had this year we would have had to close the building on some days this summer because the heat inside the building would have been too much for seniors and kids attending programs there.
The sale should be completed sometime within six months if all steps and conditions are met going forward. Now that the sale of Ridgecrest is pending, the Town Board will continue its attention on getting the new Community Center ready for the Grand Opening on Saturday, October 1st at 10:00 a.m. This new building on Chiyoda Drive will serve the needs of the community for years to come just as Ridgecrest did for over 20 plus years.
