Traffic, Traffic, Traffic

Posted on June 12, 2017 at 10:26 AM by PattiAnn Schultz

I witnessed and sat in a long line of cars on Saturday, June 3rd as traffic was backed up on Ridge Road from Schroeder High School back to Hatch Road.  I can honestly tell you that this is going to get worse before it gets better, but it will get better in the future.

The weekend of Father’s Day June 17th and 18th) is Webster Soccer’s huge soccer tournament using most of the open playing fields here in Webster.  The traffic that weekend will be very heavy as many people come from the east coast states to participate in this tournament. If you can avoid Ridge Road that weekend I would recommend it to save you from traffic frustration.

Shortly thereafter New York State will start construction on the intersections of Hard Road and Five Mile Line Road to improve traffic through these intersections. They will also be moving telephone poles, replacing and repairing drainage catch basins, installing sidewalks in some areas, and putting in handicap assessable walk ways to these sidewalks.

The State DOT will also be closing Hard Road from the Hegadorn’s grocery driveway on Hard Road north for three weeks to level the sight distance at Hard Road.  This will take place after the July 4th holiday and I am positive that this will bottleneck traffic during this time frame.

During the summer New York State crews will be working on Five Mile Line Road to widen the road at the intersection to add right hand turn lanes and left hand turn signals to this intersection and the Hard Road intersection. With these improvements, New York State sees traffic moving faster through these intersections and not backing up because of right land and left hand turns that stop and back up traffic today.

All of this construction is to take place this summer right up to winter, will restart in the spring of 2018, and should be completed in June of 2018. I know that this is a long time, delays are going to happen, and traffic will continue to back up. However, it will be better after June of 2018 so Webster residents are going to have to endure waiting in construction delays or better yet avoid Ridge Road when you can.
