Hojack Trail Going East Almost Complete

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 10:36 AM by PattiAnn Schultz

About four years ago County Legislators Carmen Gumina and Dan Quatro helped the Town of Webster receive a grant from the County of $ 240,000.00 to make improvements to the walking trail on the Hojack Line going east through the Town and Village of Webster. After many years of design and planning with railroad officials along with town and village highway employees, the project is about to be completed.

Just a few weeks ago the tracks where removed and the railroad turnaround was installed near Xerox. This turnaround was installed in case any trains in the future need to travel west to pick up or drop of materials to Xerox or any other business that might locate near the tracks.

This then allowed the cooperation between the town’s highway and village Highway Departments to work together on taking out the tracks at the intersections of Holt Road, Route 250 and Phillips Road. In taking out the tracks at Holt Road, the hump in the road was taken out and road improvements were also made. The departments will now move on to taking out the tracks at Route 250 in the Village of Webster before moving on to Phillips Road.

We also started today putting down asphalt millings near Holt Road going east to make a base for walking on the trail. This will be continued through to Phillips Road and we anticipate that the project will be completed by the end of July.

New Fishing Pier at North Ponds Park

Just recently a new ADA fishing pier was installed at the second pond in North Ponds Park. The money for this project also was a block grant from the County for around $30,000.00 that allowed the town to purchase and install this fishing dock. I have already heard from residents that this is a great addition to the park for our fishing enthusiasts to try out their hand at catching some perch and small mouth bass that reside in the ponds at North Ponds.

Save the Date

This Saturday, June 9th at 8:00 a.m. starts the beginning of Webster’s Joe Obbie Farmer’s Market at Webster Towne Plaza (the plaza with Target and Kohl’s) on Holt Road. I hope to see a lot of Webster residents supporting this long standing farmer’s market in town.

Saturday, June 23rd is the date of Webster’s Summer Celebration! This year the event will be held at the new Recreation Center on Chiyoda Drive. Entertainment will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Sky Coaster’s playing at 7:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. with fireworks right after the band stops playing.

There will also be plenty of food for all including hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, pizza, fried dough, ice cream and more. Many things for the kids to do also including the rock climbing wall, face painting and other games for the kids.

So mark down the date, bring your blanket and chairs and come and enjoy the day with your Webster neighbors. Sorry no dogs are allowed at the event.
