Preliminary 2013 Town Budget Passed

Posted on October 22, 2012 at 1:47 PM by PattiAnn Schultz

At the Town Board meeting on Thursday, October 18th the Town Board passed the 2013 Preliminary Budget for the Town which will be the working budget until final passage on November 1st.

There will be a 16 cent per thousand increase in town taxes outside the village and a 31 cent per thousand increases inside the village. The major driver of the tax increases is the continued double digit increases in health and pension costs for our employees. Another item which is affecting the budget is the continuing increase of petroleum based products.

The Town Board has not raised taxes in five years and we have controlled the tax rate by using fund balances, cutting employees and stripping each and every department to the bone. Well, after five years fund balances are down and we cannot cut any more employees and department cuts would only result in service cuts to residents.

I would like to invite the residents of Webster to watch a replay of the Town Board meeting from Thursday night on Wednesday night October 24th at 7:30 p.m. The presentation I made that night includes highlights of the 2013 budget, along with my thoughts and recommendations on the 2014 budget. I feel that the town, as a whole, should address the continuing pension and health care costs which are going to increase taxes in the coming years unless we, the town residents and the Town Board, act in a strong and precise manner.

As always, if you have any questions about your town government, please feel free to contact me during regular business hours at (585) 872-7068; or email me anytime at
