Webster Safe After Hurricane Sandy

Posted on November 5, 2012 at 10:16 AM by PattiAnn Schultz

The Webster waterfront escaped serious damage from Hurricane Sandy but there was some hair rising moments Monday night. The County called for a mandatory evacuation of homes along the lake front Monday evening in anticipation of high waves and winds.

The Webster Police along with local volunteer firemen braved the wind and rains to go door-to-door to notify homeowners of the evacuation and to advise homeowners that a shelter had been set up at the Webster Recreation Center for anyone who needed shelter for the night. Highway crews set up road blocks on Holt Road and Lake Road after huge trees had fallen across the roads. Sewer employees worked around the clock after the waste treatment plant lost power along with many pump stations here in town.

Our evacuation coordinator, Rob Boutillier, was in constant touch with the county about emergency matters along with me talking with county officials about what steps where being taken on behalf of Webster residents along the lake.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteer firemen, Red Cross workers, Webster Police officers, highway crews, sewer employees, and others who sacrificed their time and effort Monday night for the good of Webster to make sure all residents where safe and out of harm’s way.
