Webster Police Department UPDATE:

We have made numerous posts lately about thieves targeting unlocked cars during the overnight hours. Our midnight shift officers have made arrests, but the problem continues.

Our officers are checking as many neighborhoods as possible and even discovered many of the recent thefts before the victims were aware that their cars had been targeted.

We continue to investigate these thefts and will follow up on leads that may include tracking down stolen property, forensic testing on recovered stolen vehicles and tracking the use of stolen debit / credit cards.

We need your help. Please lock your cars and houses at all times. Do not leave valuables inside your cars. Do not leave your house or car keys inside your vehicle.

If you see or hear anything unusual, please call 911 immediately. Do not wait until the morning to call 911. Call right away even if it is the middle of the night. "Unusual" may include things like- people walking through yards or appearing to be hanging out in driveways (especially during overnight hours), dome lights remaining on inside parked cars, the sound of car alarms, car doors closing or being slammed or dogs barking in the middle of the night.

If you have friends and family members who do not use social media, please share this information with them. Please share this message on your page.

Thank you!!
