Webster Special Police
The Webster Special Police has been serving the Town of Webster since the 1950s. Originally known as Civil Defense Auxiliary Police later changed to Auxiliary Police operated under New York State Civil Defense administered by Monroe County Office of Emergency Preparedness until 1997. In 1997 the unit was reestablished as the Webster Special Police by the Town of Webster under section 158 of NYS Town Law.

Webster Special Police are Trained Volunteer Professionals appointed by the Town Board. The Officers come from all walks of life; business owners, retirees, students, white and blue collar workers. Each officer brings his or her own experience and talents to the department. There are currently 25 officers in the department. Each officer in the department is a “Peace Officer”, as defined by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law.
The Webster Special Police attend training at the Monroe County Public Safety Training Center. The training includes Special Police Academy and NYS Part-time Peace Officer training. They also conduct internal training throughout the year.
The Webster Special Police assist the Webster Police Department with many of the events that occur in the Town. These events include parades, carnivals, walks, runs, and community events. They also assist the Webster Police Department with emergency police events, which cover major crimes, accidents, evacuations, sobriety check points, or any other situation in which the police departments decides we are needed. Traffic and crowd control are their primary duties.
The Webster Special Police helps keep Webster Town Court Safe. They have been providing court security for the town since October of 2005.
The Special Police have “Top Notch” equipment. They have two fully equipped emergency vehicles that are for dedicated use. They also have a fully equipped dual axle trailer for “Field” and “Mobile Command Center” use, as well as supplemental use of the police department vehicles. They have interoperable radios that communicate with the Police department radios as well as 911.
The Special Police officers are on call 24 hours a day and are called out for emergency situations via a paging system.
They are located right behind the Webster Town Hall at the Van Ingen court building.
