[ARCHIVED] Webster Police Department - Pharmaceutical Waste Collection Program Update

Webster Police Department - Pharmaceutical Waste Collection Program Update

We need your help with an issue, please.

Our pharmaceutical waste collection program has been very successful and we constantly get positive feedback about our program.  Thank you!  However, our program has become inundated with over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, cough drops, vitamins and other non-Rx medications.  We are running out of room for the Rx medications that the program was intended to collect.

At this time, we have to limit our pharmaceutical collection program to prescription medications only.  This move will allow us to more efficiently dispose of the prescription medication posing the highest risk to our waterways and to the health of people in your home.

We are not able to accept sharps, ointments, liquids or inhalers.  Our bin is located the the Police Department Lobby and is open M-F, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, excluding holidays.  No appointment is necessary, just stop in and our Records Staff will point you in the right direction.

Not wanting to leave folks high and dry, we still want to help by offering alternatives.  We know people need to clean non-Rx medications and supplements out of their cabinets.  Here are some options for disposing of non-Rx medications, sharps, dietary supplements, liquids, ointments and other items that cannot go into our pharmaceutical waste collection bin.

1.  Sharps can be brought to a local hospital or nursing home.  Here is some info found through a quick Google search for sharps disposal sites within a 10 mile radius of Webster.

2.  Twice per year, Webster PD hosts a pharmaceutical collection event in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration.  We often partner with another local establishment, such as Wegmans.  During these events, we do accept over the counter medicines, vitamins, herbal supplements, ointments and liquids.  We are not able to accept sharps nor personal care items such as shampoo, shaving cream, toothpaste or mouthwash.  We advertise these events here on our Facebook page.  Bring us those non-Rx meds cluttering up your house and we will take them off your hands.....but only at our special pham collection events.

3.  Walgreens operates a program to collect unwanted or unused medications.  Here is a link describing their program.

We hope this information is helpful.
